What are the special features of the BY44 and BY51 materials?
BY44 is a leaded multi-component bronze that has very good machinability and good corrosion resistance. It is also characterised by its excellent spring properties.
BY44 is used for electrical contacts that are manufactured as turned parts. BY44 can be strengthened up to 800N/mm² and is thus significantly stronger than leaded brass materials. Compared to leaded brass materials, BY44 is insensitive to stress corrosion cracking.
BY51 offers the good cold forming properties and the good corrosion resistance of a conventional bronze paired with a medium machinability.
BY51 is used in electrical engineering and the automotive industry for a wide range of applications, where the desired strength is achieved by cold forming and the component shape can be produced by machining.
Compared to leaded brass materials, BY51 is also insensitive to stress corrosion cracking.
